The establishment of UPM Sports Centre began under the Division of Student Affairs in 1970an. The establishment of Sports Centre institution of higher education was due to the Sports Development Committee Cabinet's (SDCC) decision series 3 no.2/2005 with the intention to increase the quality of the nations's sports through upgrading the Sports Centre in all public institution of higher education.
Sport Centre upholds the SDCC's aim to increase teh quality of the nation's sports through the implementation of the National Sports Policy and the IPT Sports Policy. The UPM Sports Centre holds the responsibility to:
UPM Sports Centre is administratively linked under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni (HEPA) in accordance with KSU's letter to UPM dated 24 March 2008.
Sports centre shall be led by "S" scheme officer, the Youth and Sports Officer Scheme. The sports centre is a member of the Malaysian University Sports Council (MASUM) and the membership of this council can only be represented by the "S" scheme.
